Mitigation of Climate Change Effects

For hundreds of millions of people the threat of famine is connected to the change of the climate. The planting of the Moringa tree, can play one important role in mitigating the effects of climate change.

Moringa Oleifera: a sustainable solution against malnutrition.

The Mission: Spread the moringa seeds.

We are well aware of the serious food shortages and the large environmental problems around the world. Moringa gives you the possibility to contribute to the solutions of these problems.

Moringa could virtually wipe out malnutrition.

Moringa can make the difference! Experts agree moringa could virtually wipe out malnutrition. The countries with the highest rates of malnutrition are almost all the same countries where Moringa grows best-exactly where it is needed the most. We know that Moringa represents a superior option for battling the effects of malnutrition in impoverished areas.

Moringa sounds like magic. It can rebuild weak bones, enrich anemic blood and enable a malnourished mother to nurse her starving baby. It's cheap, and full of nutrients. A dash of Moringa oleifera seeds powder can make dirty water drinkable. Doctors use Moringa oleifera to treat diabetes in West Africa and high blood pressure in India. Not only can Moringa oleifera staunch a skin infection, it makes an efficient fuel, fertilizer and livestock feed.

Within the past ten years, Moringa oleifera, a tropical, multipurpose tree has grown from being practically unknown, even unheard of, to being a new and promising nutritional and economic resource for developing countries. The Moringa oleifera tree leaves, which are easy to grow and rich in proteins, vitamins and minerals, are becoming widely used in projects fghting against malnutrition. Producing Moringa oleifera leaves is also a means of generating agricultural income, developing the food processing industry and founding new businesses.

Most people agree that hunger, existing on a large scale, is unacceptable. In prosperous countries many people are prepared to give money or do voluntary work. For decades development aid has been given with mixed results. For example, Western organisations import vitamin pills or nutrition bars to problem areas. In the short term it can be a solution. It is however, not a long term solution for chronic food shortages. To know which aid is really durable, it is good to look at the potential that is already available in developing and third world countries. Moringa is a very simple and readily available solution to the problem of malnutrition. The edible leaves of the Moringa oleifera tree are already an occasional food source throughout regions of the tropics and sub-tropics.

"Conventional" crops are often not native and require expensive inputs, significant irrigation and land preparation in order to produce a successful harvest. This means that they are more vulnerable to droughts. For smallholder farmers in Africa's drylands, a failed harvest can mean months of malnutrition and hardship. Trees, on the other hand, often survive when other crops fail. Commonly seen by the West as "famine foods", tree foods already form a significant part of daily diets across rural Africa.

The Miracle Trees Foundation :

● Give knowledge to the Moringa tree and its possibilities

● Support existing projects in developing countries where the Moringa trees are cultivated and processed

● Stimulate and promote the planting and use of Moringa trees

● Stimulate the fair trade of Moringa products on the world market, so the producers, such as local farmers and people who grow the plants, can profit.
